Developmental Applications Are Advancing The Release Of Flexible, Dielectric Silicone Rubber
Randolph, MA -- Emerson & Cuming Microwave Products announced today that they have initiated field evaluation of a new low loss dielectric material. This product, called ECCOSTOCK® DES K, is a flexible dielectric elastomer that has the ability to be applied to curved surfaces. Some of the initial applications come from the Bio-Medical, Military, and Electronics Industries. The product is being evaluated in several designs at the university level and in industry involving prototypes for applications ranging from lenses and covers within radome systems, to antenna arrays that require an impedance match with human tissue.
Mike Plante, Vice President of Sales & Marketing, Americas, says, "This is a major breakthrough for the application of flexible dielectric materials to a non flat surfaces. I've seen nothing like this in the market to date."
ECCOSTOCK® DES-K is a tough, flexible silicone rubber material that is impervious to water, with dielectric constants ranging from 2 to 30 with typical loss tangents of .008 to .009. The material can be supplied as thin as .010" (.25mm) and is available with a factory applied peel and stick adhesive (PSA) for easy attachment.
