KVG Announces New High Performance SMD OCXOs

Based on new R&D OCXO approaches and the usage of new phase noise-optimized SC-cut crystals the KVG engineers succeeded to improve the electrical and thermical design of their OCXOs in order to create new high performance OCXO products what can extend the possible applications for these small SMD parts.

For a 10 MHz output signal the phase noise at 10 Hz from the carrier is better than -130 dBc/Hz (-135 dBc/Hz are available as an option); at 100 Hz it's -155 dBc/Hz already and at 1 kHz distance you can get -165 dBc/Hz; the socalled ‘noise floor' is in the range of -170 dBc/Hz, typically.

In addition to the excellent phase noise performance the new OCXOs show tight frequency stability of ±5 ppb (±5 x 10-9) in the temperature range of –20 °C to +70 °C, respectively ±10 ppb from –40 °C to +85 °C. The long term stability (aging) ist better than ±1 ppb per day resp. better than ±0.1 ppm per year.

The new Series 6000 OCXOs meet the frequency stability requirements of Telcordia (Bellcore) 1244-CORE Stratum 3E, GR-253-CORE (Issue 3) and ITU-T G.812 (option 3); i.e. an overall frequency stability better than ± 4.6 ppm for 20 Jahre and – very important – the 24-hours ‚Holdover Stability' is better than ±12 ppb.

These special ‚Low Phase Noise' OCXOs show best phase noise performance with a supply voltage of +12 V; the true ‘sine wave' output signal provides +6 dBm power at 50 Ohm with low harmonics. The standard frequency is 10 MHz, further frequencies are available on request. Typical applications for those new OCXOs are reference oscillators for measurement equipment and test systems or any other RF sources for which low phase noise and tight frequency stability are most important.
