KVG Quartz Crystal Technology announces the availability of new high frequency OCXOs specified for the frequency range of 100 MHz to 500 MHz. Designed by the engineers of KVG, these new products possess exceptional low phase noise (LPN) performance with low G-sensitivity (LGS) due to new phase-noise-optimized SC-crystals utilized in the low-noise multiplier circuits.

For a 100 MHz output signal, the phase noise at 100 Hz from the carrier is less than–130 dBc/Hz (optional –135 dBc/Hz); at 1 kHz -155 dBc/Hz (optional -160 dBc/Hz); and at 10 kHz to achieve the new LPN / LGS types even -170 dBc/Hz, the ‘Noise Floor' at a distance of 100 kHz and larger for better -175 dBc/Hz.

For a 500 MHz output signal, the phase noise at 100 Hz carrier offset is -115 dBc/Hz; at 1 kHz, -140 dBc/Hz; and at 10 kHz, -150 dBc / Hz, -155 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz; the 'Noise Floor' at 1 MHz and higher is at -160 dBc/Hz.

In addition to the excellent phase noise performance the new OCXOs also have excellent frequency stability of ± 50 ppb (± 5 x 10-8) over the temperature range from -20 °C to +70 °C. Versions for an extended temperature range from –40 °C to +85 °C are also available.

The long-term stability (aging) of these new OCXOs is better than ±3 ppm in 15 years. Special attention was paid to HiRel applications requiring low G-sensitivity. KVG is utilizing specially-designed, low-G crystals to optimize the vibration sensitivity for mobile applications such as train, aircraft, or trucking. With this it is possible to achieve a dynamic G-sensitivity of less than 1 ppb/g (1 x 10-9/g) for these new KVG OCXOs.

A rugged metal housing (51 mm x 51 mm x 29 mm) has been designed for the specific needs of HiRel applications. It has an SMA connector for signal extraction using a coaxial RF cable and feedthrough capacitors for the operating voltage, the tuning voltage and the reference voltage connections. These OCXOs are ideal as a reference for microwave signal sources, for the radar in professional satellite communications technology, for applications in the field of measurement and medical equipment (MRI), and for military applications with high demands on short-term as well as long-term stability and phase noise.
